Lightning Roulette Review
Lightning Roulette is one of Evolution Gaming’s impressive new releases revealed at ICE 2018. This extended Live Roulette game features boosted payouts and electrifying user interface, once again demonstrating how the company managed to claim and firmly hold onto the title of the leader.
On top of all standard betting options, their unique Roulette variant features 1 to 5 randomly-generated lucky numbers, and related payouts of 50:1 to 500:1 offered for Straight Up bets. At the beginning of each round, all lucky numbers are re-set to offer new opportunities for enhanced rewards. This novelty was executed by combining a digital RNG with Live Roulette wheel, a mechanism the provider has never used before.
Players have yet to experience the game once it makes its way to top online casinos, though no doubt they’ll find it comes with the same in-game options and high-quality streaming as other products in the provider’s catalogue.
They’ll get to use same friendly options for placing different kinds of wagers, and benefit from insights provided by detailed statistics. Settings and user interface have been made unique by incorporating lightning bolts and electrifying sound effects. For example, you’ll be seeing randomly chosen lucky numbers struck by lightning to give magnified payouts.

Best Casinos Offering Lightning Roulette
Lightning Roulette has the exact same rules as your typical European Roulette table. The layout and wheel are matching, but there’s one core difference that distinguishes this game.
- Before every spin between 1 to 5 numbers will be selected and feature improved payout odds of between 50x and 500x, should the ball land on those numbers. There is no information on how many numbers are selected on average.
- Winnings are only obtained by making straight up number bets. You cannot win “a piece” of the multiplier by making split, street or any other types of bets.
- The numbers that are not selected before the spin have payout odds of 29 to 1.
- RTP in Lightning Roulette is 95,13% for straight up bets, which is lower than the European Roulette, but higher than the American variation.
Lightning Roulette Strategy – Bet On All Numbers
Betting all the numbers straight up is the most common strategy. Even though this is not a +EV strategy (meaning it won’t guarantee profit) it’s not a bad way to approach this game. Since every spin there are between 1 to 5 numbers that get multipliers, this works pretty well.
Some basic math is as follows:
You bet all the numbers for 1 UNIT = 37 units per spin. So possible outcomes are:
- If you hit a non multiplied number it will pay 29 to 1 so 30 units (since they also give you your stake back). The net is -6 units every time a non multiplier number is hit.
- You hit a multiplied number of 50x to make a profit of 13 units.
- You hit a multiplied number of 100x to make a profit of 63 units.
- You hit a multiplied number of 200x to make a profit of 163 units.
- You hit a multiplied number of 300x to make a profit of 263 units.
- You hit a multiplied number of 400x to make a profit of 363 units.
- You hit a multiplied number of 500x to make a profit of 463 units.
The obvious problem here is that you cannot really estimate how often each of the multipliers is awarded, otherwise The game does point out that the long-term RTP is 97.30.
I’m betting all the numbers, so I will hit the multiplier every time. This surely must mean profit, right?
We got to admit that we got a little bit carried away with this ourselves and for a moment thought about betting it all on this obviously winning strategy. However…
In order to get a multiplier, you must actually hit the number.
Imagine a scenario where you bet all the numbers, “30” “31” and “32” gets multipliers of 100x, but the ball lands on “8”. So all you get is a 29 to 1 payout for a loss of 7 units.
How Often In Theory Will One Hit The Lightning Number Betting Just 1 Number?
The odds are 37×37 so once every 1369 spins.
1,000 Lightning Roulette Spins – Results Below
So we took the liberty of observing one thousand spins on Lightning Roulette to understand how often the multipliers are awarded and what could one expect. Not that this is of any statistical significance, but should give you a little insight into what can be expected of this awesome game.
To sum up the information you can see in the table above – we bet on all numbers for 1,000 spins and this is what happened:
- We hit a multiplied number 69 out of 1,000 times for a hit rate of 6.9%.
- We hit 50x multiplier 25 times for a hit rate of 2.5%.
- We hit 100x multiplier 27 times for a hit rate of 2.7%.
- We hit 150x once.
- We hit 200x 12 times for a hit rate of 1.2% (a bit surprising).
- We hit 400x once.
- We hit 500x two times.
The total result for the 1,000 spins was -624 units. So lets imagine that we were playing for £1/number which would mean that the total end result after 1,000 spins would be -£624. At the same time we would have wagered £37,000 meaning a house edge of roughly 1.68%. Of course 1,000 spins is nothing on Lightning Roulette, but these are just the beginning and we aim to complete a total of 100,000 spins eventually.
It’s worth pointing out that £37,000 is a lot to have wagered and you could of likely had some additional returns from a 1st deposit bonus or a wager based promotion.
We added the screenshots above to prove that the data in the tables is actually based on Lightning Roulette spins. The yellow numbers in these tables show when the multiplied number was also the winning one. They are ordered from 1st to 5th starting from the leftmost.
#1. Take Advantage Of The Promotions
The best playing tip anyone will ever give you for Lightning Roulette is to play at casinos that offer promotions for it.
Since it’s such a new release (released early 2018) most of the casino sites that focus on their live dealer section are throwing in some additional money to promote it.
Typical promotions include races for those that wager the most on the game or those that get the highest amount of multiplied numbers. We are not recommending that you put an insane amount of time into competing at these races, but rather think in a way of “if I will play this game for X amount of time, which casino offers the best value?”
#2. Choose a Strategy Based On Your Comfort Level for Volatility & Bankroll Size
Above we explained a strategy that is the most likely one to get you to eventually landing that 500x straight up number hit. However there are many more systems and strategies you can try.
The obvious are the Martingale, Fibonacci, Oscar’s Grind and a handful other Roulette systems, but you can experiment with hedging bets and various other ideas to find a fitting Lightning Roulette strategy for yourself.
As decent general guidelines, we generally advise to never bet more than 2-3% of your bankroll per spin. For less volatile betting systems like betting all numbers you can go as high as 10% per spin, since you are guaranteed to receive back the majority of that.
Ideally you would bet amounts close to these, when using our system for betting on all numbers:
- €/£100 bankroll – 0.20 per number or £7.40 per spin.
- £500 bankroll – £1 per number or £37 per spin
- £10,000 bankroll – £20 per number or £740 per spin.
Note that you are guaranteed to receive a payout of at least 29 to 1 so 0.81% return of the stake, meaning you only really risk £7 out of that £500 bankroll when betting £37 a spin. The potential upside? Potential of £500 return meaning an instant double up on the bankroll.
#3. Don’t Be Biased & Keep a Cool Head
It’s important to remember that just because a number has not fallen in 100 spins does not mean that it is more likely to happen. For an unbiased Roulette wheel every spin means odds of 1 in 37 spins. This includes the Lightning Roulette one too.
It is always helpful to have a plan before placing your first wager. How much are you looking to risk? Is there a stop-win limit, meaning you quit if you manage to win a certain amount?
Even though it does not affect the payout odds of Roulette, as the house edge is built in the game, having a goal and building towards it is always more fun, even when doing that in the context of gambling
In our opinion, Lightning Roulette is a much more exciting way to play live dealer roulette. It also appeals to those that play slots just because the winning potential in relation to your wager is higher.
Well, opportunity to get a 500x for a straight up number bet sounds like pretty good potential to us.
When it comes to any strategy or tips, it will always depend on what your bankroll and tolerance for risk is. You can either play it like a lottery and bet 1 number straight up (which will be the multiplied number and hit right about once every 1369 spins) or bet all the numbers and play it safe.
