The decision to host the summit in Rome underscores Italy’s emergence as a central hub for gaming technology and innovation. The country’s gambling industry has seen revenue figures reach approximately €16 billion, but only a quarter of that originates from online gaming, indicating a vast space for further digital growth.
Research from Statista projects that Italy’s online gaming sector will generate €2.89 billion in 2024, with an annual growth rate of 5.52% expected through 2029. Within this, the online casino segment is predicted to climb from €1.54 billion this year to €3.78 billion over the next five years—a clear signal of expanding opportunities for developers and operators.
Rome itself is fast becoming a magnet for digital startups and venture capital activity. Italy now stands among Europe’s top ten nations for venture funding, with investments soaring from €1.1 billion in 2021 to €2.3 billion in 2022, and maintaining momentum with €1.195 billion raised during the first three quarters of 2024. Over the last decade, the country’s startup ecosystem has multiplied elevenfold, now valued at around $60 billion—driven by innovation in AI, deep tech, and space technology.
Government-backed initiatives like the Houses of Emerging Technologies program have further strengthened Italy’s digital landscape, reinforcing Rome’s status as an ideal host for SiGMA Central Europe’s celebration of business innovation and visionary leadership.
