Study Finds Most Players Did Not Spot AI Casino Presenters

BetGames-research-reveals-more-than-70_-of-players-failed-to-recognise-AI-avatar-gameshow-presenters

A recent experiment conducted by BetGames suggests that most players cannot easily distinguish between human presenters and artificial intelligence avatars in live casino game shows. The company revealed that more than 70 percent of participants did not recognize when hosts had been replaced by AI-generated versions during a live broadcast.

The trial involved introducing AI avatars designed as digital replicas of real presenters into one of the company’s live gaming products. The change occurred without informing players in advance, allowing researchers to observe natural reactions and measure whether the presence of AI affected gameplay behavior.

According to the findings, fewer than 30 percent of users realized that the presenters were generated by artificial intelligence.

AI Hosts Tested in Live Casino Environment

The test took place over several days and aimed to evaluate whether AI presenters could realistically perform the same role as human hosts in live dealer-style games. The avatars closely mirrored the appearance of actual presenters, creating a controlled environment for the experiment.

During the trial period, the company monitored several performance indicators commonly used to measure engagement in live casino products. These included session duration, the size of player stakes, and the number of bets placed during gameplay.

Researchers reported no statistically meaningful changes in any of those metrics while the AI presenters were active. Player behavior remained consistent with normal activity levels observed when human hosts led the games.

The absence of measurable differences suggests that the technology can technically fulfill the same function as a traditional presenter. At the same time, the company said the results did not reveal any significant advantages that would justify replacing human hosts on a larger scale.

Limited Business Case for Large-Scale Rollout

Despite growing interest in artificial intelligence across the technology sector, the study indicates that practical benefits for live casino production remain uncertain. The company found that operating AI avatars continuously is still resource-intensive, reducing the expected financial gains often associated with automation.

In addition to cost considerations, technical limitations also continue to affect the development of realistic AI presenters. One of the most challenging aspects involves creating natural-sounding speech through text-to-speech systems.

Developers must also manage issues such as delays between audio and lip movements, latency during real-time operation, and inaccuracies in translation systems used for multilingual audiences. These elements remain important for live gaming environments where presenters interact continuously with players.

As AI-generated characters become more realistic, small flaws in speech or synchronization can stand out more clearly to viewers. The company noted that these factors will require further refinement before the technology can be widely deployed in commercial products.

Industry Perspective on AI’s Future Role

The research project forms part of the company’s broader exploration of artificial intelligence within the gaming industry. The initiative is being led by Andreas Koeberl, chief executive of BetGames and co-founder of Autonomous Minds, which developed the AI analyst tool Milo.

Koeberl commented on the results and the broader implications for AI in live casino entertainment.

“AI has been building up a head of steam, but its implications in the live casino space remain largely untested. When it comes to AI presenters, we built it, it worked, and nobody cared. That raises the question of what we are actually working toward.

“The technology didn’t have a positive or negative effect on the player experience or product margins, and the cost of running an AI avatar 24/7 bears no significant advantage over employing human presenters.

“So, rather than trying to replace humans and simulating what already exists, focus should turn towards what AI can make possible that wasn’t before. That’s where the real value lies.”

Recognition Within the Live Casino Sector

While continuing its work on artificial intelligence applications, BetGames has also received recognition within the live casino industry. The company has been shortlisted for the Best Live Dealer Provider category at the European iGaming Excellence Awards 2025, which will take place in Warsaw this October and is organized by HIPTHER.

The nomination placed the company alongside several well-known developers in the live casino market. Earlier in 2025, BetGames was also included in a ranking of the Top 12 Live Casino Software Providers.

That list featured major companies such as Evolution, Pragmatic Play, and Authentic Gaming.
