Playtech has expanded its North American presence by launching operations in Alberta’s newly regulated online gaming market, a move that further strengthens the company’s position in Canada as the province opens its legal iGaming sector to licensed operators.
The gambling technology supplier announced that it is supporting a range of approved operators from the first day of Alberta’s regulated market. Through the launch, operators will gain access to Playtech’s portfolio of online casino and live gaming products, including titles that have already established a presence in other regulated North American jurisdictions.
Among the games being introduced are Adventures Beyond Wonderland and Mega Fire Blaze Roulette, alongside casino offerings such as Oink Oink Oink. Playtech said the content has demonstrated strong levels of player engagement in regulated markets across the region.
The Alberta rollout follows Playtech’s earlier expansion into Ontario, where the company entered the market when the province launched its regulated iGaming framework in 2022. The latest move extends the company’s footprint in Canada at a time when regulated online gaming continues to develop across multiple provinces.
Alberta Launch Adds New Market Opportunity
The opening of Alberta’s online gaming sector is taking place under a regulatory structure established through the iGaming Alberta Act and supported by standards introduced by the Alberta Gaming, Liquor and Cannabis Commission (AGLC).
Playtech said its experience working with operators in established regulated markets will help support the long-term development of the province’s online gaming ecosystem.
Shimon Akad, Playtech Chief Operating Officer, said: “Entering Alberta’s regulated iGaming market on its first day is a significant milestone for Playtech’s North American expansion strategy. We are pleased to be supporting our partners with some of our strongest-performing content and are committed to working closely with them as the market evolves, broadening our offering and helping them deliver engaging player experiences to support their long-term success.”
The company indicated that it plans to work closely with operators as the market develops, while continuing to expand its content offering in response to player demand and regulatory requirements.
Focus on Regulation and Player Protection
Playtech also highlighted Alberta’s regulatory framework, particularly measures designed to support responsible gambling.
The company pointed to the province’s centralized self-exclusion system as an important component of player protection efforts. Such systems allow individuals to voluntarily restrict their access to licensed gambling platforms through a single process that applies across participating operators.
Charmaine Hogan, Global Head of Government Relations at Playtech, welcomed the structure being implemented in Alberta.
She said: “Alberta has set a strong regulatory foundation for its iGaming market, and the establishment of a centralised self-exclusion system is a particularly welcome step in safeguarding players. Well-designed regulation, underpinned by meaningful player protection tools, is what allows regulated markets to thrive and channel players away from the black market. We will continue to work constructively with the Alberta iGaming Corporation and industry partners as the market matures.”
The company noted that it intends to continue collaborating with regulators and industry stakeholders as Alberta’s market evolves.

Financial Outlook Improves on North American Performance
The Alberta launch comes shortly after Playtech increased its earnings expectations for 2026 following stronger-than-anticipated results during the first half of the year.
The company reported that adjusted EBITDA for the six months ended June 30 exceeded €155 million. That figure surpassed both market expectations and the €91.6 million recorded during the same period in 2025.
Following the trading update, Playtech raised its full-year adjusted EBITDA guidance to at least €270 million. The revised forecast represents a substantial increase compared with the €197 million achieved during 2025 and exceeded analyst expectations, which had averaged €219 million.
Growth in the United States was identified as a major contributor to the stronger performance, reinforcing the importance of North America within Playtech’s broader business strategy.
Investors reacted positively to the upgraded outlook. On July 9, shares in the London-listed company climbed by as much as 18% during trading, reaching 378.60 pence. The stock briefly moved above £3.80 and has gained approximately 40% since the beginning of the year.
Earlier in 2026, Playtech’s share price rose above £4.20 before retreating during May and June. The improved earnings guidance helped renew investor confidence, reflecting expectations for continued growth across the company’s regulated operations.
