The Malta Gaming Authority (MGA) has just unveiled that it has recalled Dorobet B2C license for non-compliance reasons. With this step, the Authority continues with suspending practice promising to bring the order in the entire gaming sector.

More About the Cancellation

The MGA has found that Dorobet has been in breach of regulatory payment prescriptions which resulted in immediate suspension. The wrongdoing has been confirmed in the MGA ruling as well as the failure to adhere to the order issued by the Authority. Additionally, the reputable Malta-based body mentioned that Dorobet didn't “comply with one or more applicable obligations in terms of any regulatory instrument or any other applicable law of Malta.“

Further on, the Authority added that Dorobet failed to ‘pay in a timely manner’ the prescribed amounts.

The Decision

According to the MGA ruling, the online gambling operator is “no longer authorized to carry out any gaming operations, register new players or accept new customer deposits.“

However, the provider is “required to retain and provide all registered players with access to their player accounts, and to refund all funds standing to the credit of players in line with the applicable law.“ If the provider deems the ruling unlawful, it can appeal the decision.

Other Cases

MGA ecently made a decision to revoke The Daily Fantasy Football Company LTD’s license. As a result, the operator lost the ability to accept wagers after the suspension of its Malta-based license. The MGA statement further added that the operator breached article 9 of the Gaming Compliance and Enforcement Regulations or failed “to meet commitments to players in a timely manner“ as well as a “failure to pay in a timely manner all amounts due to the Authority.“

Regarding the Daily Fantasy Football Company case, MGA issued the folllowing statement:

“The authorized person has failed to meet commitments to players in a timely manner, or the Authority has reason to believe that such failure is imminent following the €3,483.89 liabilities incurred by the Authorised Person towards player funds.”

Another similar case occurred with Blackrock Media which was penalized with a €2.3m fine. The enterprise has been active in gambling services without receiving a license for the same purposes. Following the MGA’s decision, local government officials used the example to show how the regulatory duty looks in practice.

Comment: It seems that the Malta Gaming Authority makes some important decisions to keep the security of the casino sector. I think that the ruling will remind operators about the obligation to comply with regulatory terms and prescriptions...
