Entain Makes Donation To Help India Cope With Covid-19 Emergency

Posted on May 18, 2021 | 12:09 pm

Entain, the powerful international sports betting and gaming entertainment group, has decided to donate 100,000 British pounds to help the Indian authorities cope with devastating effects of the current Covid-19 emergency in the country.

The donation came through the group’s Entain Foundation and it will go to Crown Agents, a not-for-profit international organisation which will take charge of making sure that the money is spent where it could make the most impact.

The pandemic has hit India very hard, with around 500,000 new cases every day at the moment, which would make around half of all new Covid-19 cases globally. Many hospitals in the country are unable to deal with the immense number of patients which are in need of immediate help.

The donation will allow Crown Agents to buy and distribute 25 oxygen concentrators to hospitals in India, along with drugs that are used in the treatment of Covid-19 such as Remdesivir, Tocilizumab and Dexamethasone.

These supplies will give some patients the chance to be treated in their own homes and avoid the already overcrowded hospitals. Entain has close ties to India, because it employs around 2,500 people at its subsidiary in Hyderabad, called IvyTech.

The Entain Group has revealed it makes important efforts to support their colleagues based in India and their families as well with the procurement of medicines, hospitalisation support and even online medical consultations.

A Successful and Growing Business

Entain is one of the world’s largest sports betting and online gambling companies, which owns prominent international brands like bwin, Coral, Ladbrokes, PartyPoker and Sportingbet.

The company started out in 2004 in Luxembourg, and then it gradually expanded through several high-profile acquisitions on the iGaming market. In 2012, the group acquired part of Sportingbet, and then in 2016 it acquired Bwin for more than 1 billion British pounds. It is now licensed and operates in more than 20 countries on five continents.

In 2020, the company had revenue of around 3.5 billion euros and a net profit of 79.4 million euros. At the beginning of May, the gaming conglomerate signed a high-profile agreement with Evolution, securing the supplier’s award-winning live dealer games for Ladbrokes, Coral, Gala Casino and Gala Bingo.

The Entain Foundation was launched in September 2019 and it was designed to coordinate and support the group’s corporate responsibility initiatives and donations. The foundation’s aim is to donate 100 million pounds over the next five years.
