Playtech, the well-known provider of software, slot games and live dealer games for online casinos, has revealed its results for the 2023 fiscal year and the numbers show a healthy revenue increase.

The company’s revenue from continuing operations was 6.6 percent higher than in the previous fiscal year, amounting to a total of 1.71 billion euros. The revenue increase was driven by growth in both segments of the company’s activity, business-to-business and business-to-consumer.

Mor Weizer, the chief executive officer of Playtech, pointed out that the company’s expansion in North America was also very important, underlining that the supplier opened its third live casino studio in Pennsylvania and increased its U.S. license count to eleven.

However, the company does have a problem: Caliplay. The Mexican brand is currently in a legal battle with Playtech which started in October 2023 and has not been resolved yet. Caliplay is a joint venture between Playtech and Caliente, a Mexican online casino and sports betting operator.

The Mexican operator is now looking to end its relationship with Playtech but without paying the supplier any compensation. Moreover, Playtech claims that Caliplay has unpaid fees towards the company because it had stopped paying its business-to-business license fees in August 2023 and additional services fees in July 2023. Despite the legal dispute, Playtech maintained that it still valued Caliplay as its customer but things might be finally settled when the case goes to trial in October 2024.

Record-Breaking Revenue for B2C Segment

The company’s business-to-consumer segment managed to break its own record revenue in the 2023 fiscal year, it recorded a 5.5 percent increase year-on-year to a total of 1.04 billion euros.

The main reason for this historic result was Snaitech, the company’s operation on the Italian market, which managed to record growth both in retail and online revenue, maintaining its number one position in the market.

Moreover, the company expects further opportunities to expand in Italy because of the upcoming increase in online concession payment, an event that will most likely make many smaller operators seek to survive by being taken over by larger brands.

Despite higher costs recorded in the 2023 fiscal year, the revenue growth allowed Playtech to report a pre-tax profit of 235.8 million euros, 146.7 percent higher than in the previous fiscal year. The company paid 130.7 million euros in tax, which left it with a net profit of 105.1 million euros.
